Software Can Be Done

A hammer doesn’t get a quarterly update. It was finished the day it was good, and it has been quietly good ever since. Somewhere we decided software was different, that a tool which stopped changing must be dying, and we taught people to distrust the calm of a thing that simply works.

We think a tool can be done. Not abandoned, not starved: done, the way a hammer is done. When a Collectedly tool does what it set out to do, and does it well, we’re allowed to stop. No invented features to justify a subscription, no redesign to look busy, no moving your furniture so the changelog has something to say.

Some of what we make will change for years. Some of it will go quiet, and staying quiet will be the whole point.
